Orton Pyrometric Cones are used to monitor ceramic firings in industrial kilns, pottery kilns, and small hobby kilns where the consistent temperature is important to the quality of the final product being fired.
Pyrometric Cones measure temperature inside a kiln by absorbing heat. As the cone nears its maturing range, it softens and the tip begins to bend, drawn down by gravity. Orton Cone Temperature Equivalent Chart
To minimize breakage during shipping: Orton cones are packed via 2 cones adhered together. To SEPARATE, hold a set of cones by the base of each then carefully but firmly twist.
